So! That's what those are called?
Barcodes have been a useful invention for quickly referencing information. At the library, checkout counter, or warehouse, we've been scanning things in, and out for longer than many students have been alive. In the last decade, the codes have been getting increasingly complex. They hold more information in as much room, and are written using a hard-coded error detection algorithm so that even partially obscured labels may function.
Many companies and individuals are taking advantage of QR Codes to provide immediate access to deals, websites, and menus. Suffice to say, they're popular for ease of use, and little to no cost. On the top left of my blog, for instance you'll see that my QR Code is more than just a black and white label. I took advantage of the fact you can read partially obscured codes in order to brand it with my name, and show off a bit of my design skills. The fact you can promote your brand in the same space you provide a label is huge. Simplicity wins, and on a business card, real-estate (card space) counts!
QR Codes are getting more and more popular as more people own iPhones and Androids, but the knowledge of their use is somewhat low still. Japan has the highest saturation of QR Code use, promoting a trend that the UK, US, and Canada are picking up on. So keep your eyes out for them in magazines, coffee shops, and other businesses, scan it with a free app like QuickMark, and get fast access to some deals, data, or details.

200 hundred words is the minimum but you should definitely expand more on your thoughts. You should convey more of your personal experience with QR codes.
ReplyDeleteWhen you mention that people own "iPhones and Androids". Those are two different things, an iPhone is a cellular device and Android is an operating system which runs on numerous cellular devices.
Actually Japan doesn't have the highest saturation of QR codes. In a recent survey less than 3% of Japanese business have a QR code. I suggest that you review your sources before you post.

Hello Sir Walker,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your layout, it is simplicity at its best. The picture is definitively entertaining. Your link showing the uses ESPECIALLY THE WIFI share is actually really practical. It is so annoying reciting a 8 digit pin when people want to use my internet. Not sure who uses Qr codes the most but I wouldn't cite Wikipedia as a source anyway. Japanese people do the most advanced things so it is believable. I see that you definitely have experience in design. I aspire to be good at that because I believe that marketing of any product is more important than its function.

The QR code you designed for your blog is very novel. In the last paragraph, you mentioned that “the knowledge of QR code use is somewhat low still and Japan has the highest saturation of QR Code use”. It’d be better if you can provide some examples to demonstrate above two topics. Generally, I agree with you on that QR code is getting more and more popular. QR code has pervaded every aspect of our daily lives.
